Miyazaki Exhibit
Washi Tape And Mini Stamps
Hi scrappers! I’m back with a layout this week that really makes me smile. It features some photos that were taken last year at the Academy Museum in Los Angeles. They had an exhibit featuring the works of Hao Miyazaki, a famous Japanese animation director who has created movies like Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, and my Neighbor Totoro. I adore all of his films (currently watchable on HBO) and wanted to see this exhibit featuring original watercolor concept art by him, hand painted animation cells, and more! There were huge murals at the entrance which I took some selfies with on the way in.
I started with some basic white cardstock and used some Totoro-branded washi tape by Nibariki to create a border around the edges. When I saw this washi, I knew I had to have it, but had no idea what I would use it for. It couldn’t be more perfect for this page! I added a scrap of navy patterned paper from from my stash as well as some orange paper from the Tattered and Worn stack by The Paper Studio. I created my title using my Sizzix Big Shot and some Thinlits alpha dies by Tim Holtz. These dies are great because you basically get two sets of dies for the price of one. You can choose just the simple letter (shown on my page) or the shadow outline. I also added some Viken chipboard pieces by 49 and Market, some paper doilies, burlap flowers by The Paper Studio, and my personal favorite, Totoro Check Stamps, also by Nibariki. These little stamps are so dang cute. They were another purchase that I knew I had to have, even if I didn’t know if I would ever use them, but I think they are my favorite details on this page! I finished with various enamel dots by Simple Stories because, well, of course I did.
This page was made for the April scraplift challenge at A Cherry on Top Crafts. ScrappyRN74’s sketch was so perfect for this. I knew I wanted to use washi for my border and her page had that exact feature. Instead of owls, I added decorated tags.
This page was also made for the washi challenge at A Cherry on Top Crafts. The challenge was to use washi on a tag somehow. I added washi as well as some torn paper to make these tags really stand out.
That’s all for this time. For more videos and pictures, you can find me over at YouTube and Instagram at thescrapattack. See you next time!
