Rainbow Connection

Bright Colors And Kraft

Hi scrappers! I hope everyone’s winter holiday was wonderful, festive and above all, safe! One of the gifts I received was a brand new paper cutter to replace the ancient one I have been using. You can see it in action in the video below. It’s sharper and a lot quieter than my previous creaky squeaky cutter.

This page features some photos that were taken this summer on our way home from Las Vegas. Off the freeway, there is an art installation called Seven Magic Mountains. From a distance, it looks like a colorful stack of children’s blocks, but up close, you realize it’s actually giant painted boulders. They contrast starkly with the monotonous brown of the desert and made for a fun backdrop when my husband took some pictures.

I started with some fabulous rainbow paper from Vicki Boutin’s Mixed Media stack. This is one of those prints that I’m attracted to immediately, but am not quite sure how to use it since is so bold and can be overwhelming. Fortunately in this case, my photo had some equally bright colors so it could hold its own. I would usually use a smaller piece of this bright paper on a more neutral background but since the whole page was going to have a rainbow theme, I went all in and used the entire page. I paired it with some scraps of kraft-colored paper so I had some neutrals to contrast with all the vibrant colors. Some Heidi Swapp ephemera, Shimelle cardstock shapes and circular puffy stickers by The Paper Studio are make for a great mix of colorful embellishments.

This page was made for the Kraft + December challenge. The theme this month was rainbow and I had a lot of fun mixing bright colors with neutral kraft tones.

This page was also made for the Becky Fleck 256 challenge at Cherry on Top. I rotated the sketch 90 degrees to fit with my vertical photo. I used some Art-I-San markers to simulate stitching around my squares and added a brown chipboard tag in roughly the same location.

That’s all for now. Thank you for stopping by and I will see you all in 2022!
